The first part of the meeting was taken up by a pre-application presentation on the Sackville Road Goodsyard site by MODA. The Development is intended to provide 600 homes as well as office space. The committee was pleased to note the reduction in height of the proposed blocks following a previous presentation.
The other major application for consideration was the development of the Brighton Metropolitan College in Pelham Street, necessitating the demolition of York, Trafalgar and Cheapside Buildings. In the absence of detailed proposals and clear imagery the committee was unable to comment constructively on the application.
Smaller, domestic applications concerned building houses in existing gardens, filling in gaps between houses and adding a further storey to a house mid-terrace. The committee was minded to recommend refusal of any application that entailed over-crowding, interruption of an existing roofline or demolition of part of an existing architectural entity (for example to create a new driveway).
