The Midsummer Night’s Drinks, hosted by the Society in the North Garden on June 21st, began as an experiment to reduce the work involved in the annual Garden Party, but ended as a great success. The essential elements of the Garden Party were all there: a bar, run with wondrous efficiency by Debra Erskine and her team; the terrific Jamboree Jazz band, by many accounts the best band ever, conducted by Mark Bassey, with resplendent soloist Gus; and a crowd of friends, neighbours and guests enjoying the chance to sit and chat on a summer evening. The weather was still chill for June, and jumpers went on as the evening did; but an appreciable number stayed as darkness fell!
Comments on the new format are very welcome. Warm thanks to all who helped and all who came.
