During the dreary covid years, all our spirits were lifted by a daily exercise walk past the bright and beautifully tended basement gardens on the Estate. To acknowledge that hard work, and say thankyou to the gardeners, the Kemp Town Society decided to revive an old tradition (started by David Morris) of awarding prizes to the best basement garden. And this year, after the appearance of a few spectacular examples, porches are eligible to enter too!
Do consider entering your garden. The spirit is not one of fierce competition, but mutual inspiration and neighbourly enjoyment. Last year’s winners are this year’s judges, so they know all about the problems of sea air, lack of water and growing everything in pots!
Judging will happen in the week beginning June 18th (just after the Chelsea Flower Show, which may provoke a thought or two!) and the prizegiving will be in the South Garden at 2pm on June 25th.
**** Please note revised time of 2pm, to allow you to have lunch first ****
To enter, please send your name, full address and phone number to seenfromthestreet@kemptown-society.org.uk
